Resort fined for conducting coastal protection project without EIA

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has fined Madifushi Private Island in Meemu Atoll for conducting a coastal protection project without an environmental impact assessment (EIA).

In a press release, EPA stated that Maldives Inflight Catering Private Limited has been fined USD1,300 for conducting a coastal protection and beach development project without conducting an EIA, under the EIA Regulation 2012. EPA noted that this was the first offense of the Maldives Inflight Catering and ordered the company to pay the fine within 30 days.

The resort was opened in January.
