Police probe reports of injuries to journalists in opposition protest

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed it is probing reports of two journalists sustaining injuries while covering an opposition protest near the Parliament on February 6.

In a statement, MPS expressed that the injury to two journalists during the protest held by the opposition coalition is a matter of great concern to the institution. However, the law enforcement authority disclosed there is no evidence the police had acted with the intention of harming journalists.

Meanwhile, MPS said there were incidents where the protestors pushed the journalists into the shields of police when officers moved forward to disperse the gathering. The police confirmed a review of the incident is being prepared by Professional Standards Command.
