Building a professional workforce can help MCS overcome challenges: Commissioner

Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu has stated building a professional workforce would help overcome the challenges currently faced by Maldives Correctional Service (MCS). He made the statement during the opening ceremony of the Instructor Training Programme conducted by the Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST).

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed Fulhu said instructors who train new prison officers shoulder a major responsibility for the nation. Noting the biggest obstacle faced by MCS is the shortage of trained officers, the commissioner said building a professional workforce would resolve many of the difficulties faced by the institution. He expressed hope that the instructors trained through this programme would lead the way forward for the development of capable officers for the institution.

The Instructor Training Programme aims to develop capable instructors who can pass on their skills to others through trainings. Participants of the programme are taught several important modules such as Managing Officers’ Performance, Lesson Plan, Physical Training, Swimming, Risk Management, Classroom Management, Foot Drill, Objective Writing, First Aid and Teaching Practice. The programme is carried out for a duration of 15 days.
