MBS begins training programme for Census 2022

Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) has commenced the training programme for Census 2022.

MBS will be conducting the training programme until September 8 with the first sessions being dedicated to the training of 100 trainers after splitting them into two batches. The first batch will be trained until July 21 while the second batch will be trained from July 31 to August 4 in Male’ City.

The training of 4,400 enumerators will begin on July 31. The training for atoll enumerators will conclude on August 25, while the training for the enumerators in the Greater Male’ Region will begin on August 14 and conclude on September 8.

MBS is seeking 4,400 enumerators for the census, including 2,409 enumerators for the Greater Male’ Region and 1,991 enumerators for the atolls. MBS stated enumerators will receive a daily allowance for every day they work or undergo training. As such, enumerators will receive a daily allowance of USD32 for every work day and USD6.5 for every training day.

The population census is set to begin in September. The full report of the census will be published on the National Statistics Day, which falls on October 20.

The population census is a count of all individuals and household units across the country. During the census, data will be collected on the income and living conditions of the public. The last census in the Maldives was conducted in 2014.
