National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed all households that were affected by the recent swell wave surges across different parts of the country have now returned to normalcy.
NDMA had earlier revealed over 400 houses were affected across 35 islands in 11 atolls due to swell wave surges that occurred during the first week of July. Some households were severely damaged, forcing the relocation of families in these households to temporary shelters. However, NDMA revealed all families have now moved back home after cleaning up their houses and repairing most of the damages. NDMA stated all families affected by the swell wave surges have now returned to normalcy.
Islands that were severely affected by the swell wave surges include islands across Thaa Atoll, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll, Laamu Atoll and Addu City. As such, 133 houses in eight islands of Thaa Atoll were reported to have been damaged by the swell wave surges while Madaveli in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll was the most affected with 98% of the houses being damaged by flooding.
