Another victim of Male’ City vehicle collision out of ICU

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has revealed that one more victim injured in the vehicle collision that occurred in Male’ City has been transferred to the ward after receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU).

The accident occurred on July 4 when a car lost control and crashed into a bus while traveling on Boduthakurufaanu Magu near Ekuveni Synthetic Track in rainy weather. IGMH stated that a 23-year-old woman succumbed to injuries shortly after being brought in for treatment and that the accident also left four needing treatment in the ICU with three on ventilator support.

Last week, IGMH revealed one of the victims was transferred to the ward from ICU. IGMH provided another update on July 13, revealing one more victim has been moved out of the ICU, adding both of them are gradually recovering. However, IGMH has not disclosed details of the injuries they suffered in the accident.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) stated that the initial investigation has revealed that the car lost control after hitting another car, resulting in the vehicle colliding with a bus driving on the opposite side. The car was totaled in the collision while the front of the bus incurred major damages. MPS stated that the accident is still under investigation.

In total, six individuals were injured in the collision. The car was damaged beyond repair and its passengers had to be removed by witnesses and police officers with assistance from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
