Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM) has opened the opportunity to apply for distance learning courses in four islands without a campus or learning centre of the university.
Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Vice Chancellor of IUM Dr. Saudulla Ali said the university aims to expand its reach across the country and facilitate learning for the whole population. The deputy vice chancellor noted IUM currently has five learning centres across the atolls, located in Hanimaadhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Naifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Fonadhoo in Laamu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City and Addu City Meedhoo. He noted these learning centres offer full-time courses for students from these regions.
Speaking further, the deputy vice chancellor revealed IUM has been getting requests from several islands without learning centres to facilitate distance learning courses in these islands. As such, he stated the university is now preparing to commence distance learning courses in four islands, including Hoarafushi and Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Mahibadhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll and Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. He said courses in Quranic studies as well as Arabic and English language will be carried out in these islands, noting the courses will start during the second semester of the university which begins in August.
IUM has opened applications for all of its programmes beginning in the second semester. In this regard, applications have been opened for 58 courses ranging from certificate level to PhD. Applications are open until July 21.
