Government in discussions to change taxi fares

The Government of Maldives has commenced discussions with taxi drivers to change the prices of taxi fares.

The government started talks with taxi drivers at a time when drivers are demanding changes in taxi fares due to the change in fuel prices in the market.

Speaking to PSM News, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said that it is currently in discussions with taxi drivers regarding the change in fares. However, the ministry did not disclose any further details.

PSM News has learned that these discussions are likely to lead to some change in the current fares for taxi fares. Taxi drivers are concerned about the lack of the possibility of changing the prices of taxis, although the prices of some other transport services have changed as fuel prices are rising in the market.

As per the latest price changes, a litre of petrol will be available at USD 1.08 and a litre of diesel at USD 1.09.

One of the main reasons for the rise in oil prices in the world market is the changes in oil prices due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
