Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that the role of students is crucial for ensuring road safety.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the traffic monitors programme, Vice President Naseem highlighted the importance of educating students on important community-related issues during their school years. The vice president also spoke about the poor traffic conditions in which drivers are impatient even when waiting for the elderly or pregnant women to get into cars and refuse to slow down or stop when pedestrians cross the street. He said that the public needs to be more aware of these types of situations, which sometimes result in road accidents. He added that educating school students is crucial to increasing their involvement and resolving similar community-related issues.
Students from three schools have graduated from the traffic monitors programme conducted by the traffic management department of the Maldives Police Service (MPS). The programme seeks to ensure students are aware of traffic regulations and road safety practices. This was the 51st traffic monitors' programme conducted by MPS and the Ministry of Education. The programme has so far taught students from over 36 schools about road regulations and safety.
