Saudi Arabia donates 50 tonnes of dates to the Maldives

The Government of Saudi Arabia has handed over the donation of 50 tonnes of dates to the Maldives.

The donation was officially handed over to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs by the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives Matrek Abdullah Al-Ajalin Aldosari. The handover ceremony was attended by a special delegation from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ambassador Aldosari said he had hoped the donation of dates would arrive in the Maldives during the month of Ramadan. However, he noted the arrival of the donation was delayed due to difficulties encountered in transport.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali thanked the Saudi government for the generous donation. He noted the dates will be distributed among the households registered as poor.

The Government of Saudi Arabia has been donating dates to the Maldives every year during the holy month of Ramadan. Moreover, Saudi Arabia has this year donated 200 Iftar packages and 3,000 Mus'hafs to the Maldives.
