MPS urges public to be wary of social media scams

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has urged the public to be wary of social media scams.

MPS said the cases reported in relation to stealing of money through fraudulent schemes run on social media are increasing. As such, MPS noted there are several Facebook pages running fake advertisements and promotions, pretending to sell items such as motorcycles in cheap prices. Noting several people have lost money through such schemes, MPS urged the public to verify the credibility of any such page or group before committing to a payment.

Furthermore, MPS has also urged the public to not take part in any fraudulent schemes and to refrain from sharing posts and advertisements made by scammers.
