The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard has started inspecting marine vessels ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holidays.
MNDF will inspect vessels from April 28-30 and May 6-7 to ensure the safety of travelers, as a large number of Maldivians travel by sea during the holidays. As part of the inspection, officers of the Male’ Area Coast Guard squadron will verify whether the vessels are adhering to the guidelines set by the safety certificate and will check the marine VHF radio and the license and credentials of the captains. MNDF stated the officers will inspect vessels coming in and leaving Male’ City during the operation.
Additionally, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) is also conducting safety checks on marine vessels from April 26 to May 2. MPS stated the programme aims to ensure all marine vessels carrying passengers have the necessary safety equipment and resources, and are following the required safety protocols.
