The national airline, Maldivian, has decided to suspend its flight operations to Ratmalana Airport in Colombo, Sri Lanka indefinitely.
Maldivian announced its flights to Ratmalana have been suspended due to the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka. The airline said it will announce a date to resume flights based on the situation of the country.
Maldivian had decided to commence flights to Ratmalana Airport in March, as the airport is located closer to areas with high Maldivian populations in Sri Lanka, compared to Bandaranaike International Airport. However, the airline did not operate any flights to Ratmalana during Ramadan, citing a decreased demand.
