Dhonfanu Council requests President to designate Hanifaru as a picnic island

Members of the Dhonfanu Island Council in Baa Atoll has requested President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to designate the neighbouring island of Hanifaru as a picnic island for residents of Dhonfanu. The request was made during a meeting held between President Solih and the Dhonfanu councillors on April 21.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, President Solih and the council members discussed the administration’s developmental plans for the island and the affairs of its residents. The council members shared with the president challenges posed by the utilisation of the harbour and waste management centre, in addition to the need for additional housing plots.

During the meeting, the council members asked the president to designate Hanifaru as a picnic island and shared the need of the youth for a football stadium. The council members also shared concerns on space constraints at the health centre, school and the secretariat of the island council, in addition to the need to improve education and healthcare services.

Speaking with the council members, President Solih briefed them on the latest on the ongoing developmental projects and plans for the island. He went on to assure them that the administration would work towards addressing their concerns.
