Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has held discussions with members of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) on extending the assistance of the foreign sector to facilitate certain electoral arrangements.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 20. Discussions at the meeting focused on extending the assistance of the foreign ministry and other bodies of the foreign sector in facilitating electoral arrangements. As such, discussions were held on facilitating the training of electoral officials, assisting the registration of voters living abroad and easing the voting arrangements for them.
Furthermore, discussions were held on ways Minister Shahid can extend assistance to ECM in his role as the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. In addition, ECM also sought further avenues for assistance from diplomatic missions abroad during elections.
