Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated discussions are ongoing to seek the assistance of foreign agencies for the investigation of the corruption scandal of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
Speaking at the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions, Vice President of ACC Abdul Salaam said one of the biggest challenges faced by the commission is the inability to retain investigators. Noting the training of an investigator takes years, Salaam said the continuous resignation of investigators presents a major obstacle in completing the investigation of cases. He added ACC is conducting discussions to seek assistance of foreign agencies for the investigation of the MMPRC corruption scandal, in order to speed up the investigation.
The newly appointed members of ACC have pledged to speed up the investigation of the MMPRC scandal, which involves the embezzlement of over USD194 million through the lease of several islands and lagoons for resort development between 2014 and 2015.
