Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohamed Hameed has stated Maldives Police Service (MPS) will not forego its duties and responsibilities with the intention of benefitting criminals. He made the remarks in response to concerns over the release of several people apprehended during drug operations.
Speaking to PSM News, CP Hameed said drug operations are among the most high-priority operations of MPS. Highlighting the establishment of a national drug task force under the direct supervision of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the commissioner expressed confidence that results can be achieved through the multiple operations launched in the fight against drugs. He dismissed allegations that there are attempts within the police institution to save certain people involved in drug cases, stating MPS will not forego its duties and responsibilities for the benefit of criminals.
