The newly appointed members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have revealed they have concluded 10 of the 1,681 registered cases.
Speaking at a press conference, Member of ACC Thoha Mohamed said 1,673 cases had been filed when the new members began their work and that 25 new cases have been submitted since then. She said 18 of the new cases have been registered while seven have been rejected.
Furthermore, ACC member Thoha said changes will be made to how cases can be submitted to prevent submission of cases that are outside of its jurisdiction or cases that violate its guidelines. She detailed that ACC has decided to take up the responsibility of registering such cases, instead of parliamentary committees. She added that changes will be made to the case submission forms and how they can be submitted.
Also at the press conference, Vice President of ACC Abdul Salam said 1,124 cases are in the investigation stage and that the aim is to conclude 136 in the first quarter of this year. He added that 162 cases have been evaluated and sent to the members. In addition, the ACC members provided details on their plan to conclude the cases, which include prioritising state corruption cases. ACC also announced a new policy it will adhere to when conducting its work.
