Arrests made in Addu on suspicion of attempting a terrorist attack

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has made arrests in Addu City on suspicion of attempts to carry out a terrorist attack in the city.

MPS stated a group of individuals had been arrested in Addu on March 27 on suspicion of attempting a terrorist attack. However, no further details have been provided regarding the arrests.

Under the amendments brought to the Prevention of Terrorism Act, MPS has been granted several new authorities in cases involving terrorism. As such, MPS is able to arrest suspects of terrorism without a warrant issued by the court.
